Off-Highway Axles

Port & Terminal Axles

Meritor’s proven off-highway axle manufacturing technology is supported by a 100-year legacy. With weight ratings of up to 70,000 lbs. Gross Axle Weight Rating and 286,000 lbs. Gross Combined Weight, our Heavy-Duty Rear Axle for Port/Terminal Tractors hauls 20,000 lbs. more than the competition to meet the needs of today’s heavier shipping payloads.
The Meritor Heavy-Duty Rear Axle for Port/Terminal Tractors features a 72″ track with the options of additional tracks or air-operated differential lock as required. Features optimized internal gears.

Features and Benefits

Our new fabricated housing uses HSLA steel plates for flexible design capability and flexible manufacturing and housing allows axle section and length to be customized to meet strength, capacity and track requirements while also allowing integration of support bracketry.  A modular design is created by bolting forged spindles to the housing.

These axles use the proven design of the RS-14X Series carrier and 610 Series planetary wheel end with 3.46 ratio for proven performance and durability. A wide range of overall axle ratios from 8.5 to 24.8 allows optimum ratio selection for maximum productivity and increased fuel efficiency.

Additionally, the axle is fitted with 16.5″ x 7″ P brake for heavy-duty high-performance, precision gearing for quiet operation and  proven input performance – approved for 3,000 RPM with additional potential for higher speed.

Global customer support provides parts in any region of the world via worldwide distribution centers, including 3,500 Meritor authorized distributors and 2,500 dealers.

Heavy Duty Rear Axles

Our performance-proven drive axles are at the heart of our specialty product offerings. You’ll find Meritor drive axles under a variety of off-road vehicles such as fire/rescue, construction, intermodal and more.

Meritor double-reduction rear drive axles are built for applications that require deep ratio gearing to ensure maximum traction at low RPMs. A wide range of ratios assures the right specification for your operation. We also offer double-reduction tandem axles for logging and mining applications in 52,000 lb., 58,000 lb., and 70,000 lb. Gross Axle Weight Rating capacities. These tandem axles are ideal when maximum traction is required with high gross combination weights.

The double-reduction axle models incorporate a two-gear drop train, which provides slower ratios for higher torque output and maximum pulling power. The proven Meritor two-helical drop gears use a computer-controlled design and robust induction hardening to ensure stronger, quieter and longer-lived operation.

Features and Benefits

Hypoid-Generoid gearing and induction-hardened helical gearing promote longer life, greater strength and quieter operation. Rigid differential case provides greater durability, and two-piece forward carrier design provides rigidity and alignment. Helical gear reduction is designed for superior strength and long life. Tapered roller bearings, rigid differential case and triple-lip oil seals extend axle life and reduce maintenance.

A variety of spindle designs are available for all heavy-duty applications, allowing for compatibility with industry-standard brake and wheel-end equipment.

Comes equipped with a self-priming oil pump that provides positive pressurized lubrication in both forward and reverse and helps reduce spin-out potential.

Precision-forged differential gears provide maximum strength and shock resistance.
